Message from Jan Bergara

Some of you may remember being pestered by Jono at the start of the season for donations to the British Uruguan Society in memory of the recently deceased Danny Bergara.  Well, you’ll be pleased to hear that I finally got around to posting the cheque off along with the following letter:

“Please find enclosed a cheque for the sum of £50 for the British Uruguayan Society.

The money was raised via a collection from Stockport County supporters over Christmas in memory of Danny Bergara, a much loved and much missed member of the Blue Army!

All the very best

Yours faithfully

Caroline Burt”

On the 13 February, I found the following message on my answerphone:

“Caroline, I’m Jan Bergara, Danny Bergara’s wife.  And I wanted to ring you personally to say thank you very much for this large donation to The British Uruguan Society.  So kind, I was most touched.  Obviously Lunts, the funeral people, have sent me a copy saying they’ve received the donation and sent it on to The British Uruguan Society.

So just to say thank you very very much indeed, it was very very kind and I hope you can on my behalf thank the supporters if that’s possible.  And thank you for the letter.  I was very touched by that, thank you

And very excited at Stockport County and the way they are going!  They are doing really brilliant aren’t they?  I noticed a super win yesterday at Rotherham.  So I am just really carrying on as if I am still part of the club, which obviously the whole club makes me feel.

Anyway, I wish you all the best for the future and thank you again, Caroline”

So, thank you to everyone who contributed and if anyone happened to escape Jono at the time (and if you did I’d appreciate some tips J!) and fancies contributing to the cause, the address to send your donations is:
