OUR HISTORY

The travel club dates from 1997. A lot of us had been matchday regulars at the Bobby Peel for many years. We always had a good pre-match singsong in the pub and were like one big happy family. When the new Cheadle End opened, several of us made sure that we got season tickets near each other in Upper Tier Three.

Many of us regularly travelled to away games, by bus or train or car (yes, and we often did get you-know-what before the game!). Towards the end of our glorious promotion season, several of us were in the pub chatting and boozing. The opinion was aired that it would be lovely to run our own busses to away games so that we could all travel together and enjoy the same jolly atmosphere that we had at home fixtures.

Andy Fitzpatrick, who went on to be the first secretary of "Peels on Wheels" booked a coach to run from the pub to our last-game celebration at Luton. The trip was a great success - so much so that we were inspired to get together in the close season and launch our travel club.

The idea was to be supporters' club as well as organising travel so we became an affiliated branch of HISC. Associate members get priority for places on the coach and full members get, in addition, a discount on the cost of each trip. Any money we raise goes to subsidising the fares - we also carry out a variety of fund-raising activities to help with this. The club is entirely run and controlled by its membership.

This season we will continue to run transport to as many away matches as possible. We will be starting from the Bobby as usual, and will also have a second pick up point of the Pineapple (the Chunky) as it is more central for people to get to. How many matches we run buses to will depend on demand. We don't fancy running a bus to Torquay with only 6 people sitting on it!.

WHO ARE WE?

Here are the committee members as voted on at the 2005/06 AGM, responsible for the organising and running of the coaches:

Chairman - "MC " Pete Towey
A pillar of the community and responsible for writing a vast majority of County songs and singing them in a big, booming Pavarotti style voice at matches and in the pub. He is also capable of rapping them, baseball cap on backwards, whilst jigging around in his seat. Another notable talent is managing to fall fast asleep in corner of the pub, whilst holding a full pint, and not spilling a drop. The man is a legend!

Secretary - Caz "Dark Side" Burt
Caz has volunteered to take all the bookings for the coaches for the second season running. Unfairly labelled "Dark Side" for an incident that happened about 5 years ago (it involved an exceptionally drunk girl, a bemused Andy Burt and a packet of Quavers - trust me, it was hysterical!) she intends to attempt a 100% attendance at all league matches this season. Unless we play like last season. In which case, plan is abandoned.

Treasurer - Dave "Two Rivers" Plant
The man with the worst sense of direction in the world takes the role of treasurer. He managed to get lost in Bournemouth (he had the map upside down) and Bristol (followed the wrong river back to the mini bus). We happily let him take care of our finances; we just don't let him navigate! Not unless we want to set off three weeks before kick off……

Fundraiser - Jenny and the gang!
Ah, the "best" job. Prising money out of people. This role had previously been held by Tony Donlon. Unfortunately, he is now in Southport running his own pub and cannot help us out this season (although we like to think he is still taking the football cards round in his own inimitable style!) So this season Jenny and the clan are taking over. Who can resist little Tanya and Ben Cross as they plead for money? And don't try pretending you are asleep as they will keep mithering you until you give them a quid for card! They are the only people capable of raising more dosh than Donlon himself!

Charity Fundraiser - Phil "Mooooooooooooooooonbird" Robinson
This is a new role that was introduced at this years AGM. As we are going to continue with the DebRA fundraising this year and intend to do another sponsored walk, we needed someone to take charge. Phil feels passionate about the cause so was an obvious choice. He also did a lot of stewarding on the coaches last season, despite not being officially on the committee at the time, so it was only right that he should be recognised. We are currently running a book to see which ground he is going to get chucked out of this season…….

Webmaster - Martin "Nemo" White
Last but not least, this is another new role that was passed at the AGM. This website was launched part way through last season and Mart has put a lot of time and energy into it. Again, it seemed only fair that he should be recognised for his efforts and made an official committee member. His favourite film is Finding Nemo and you will often find him in the pub sipping girly alco-pops. This boy is not to be messed with. He is well hard.
